About

The Bike Sharing Atlas was part of a research project of the Visualization and Data Analysis Group at the University of Vienna, led by Michael Oppermann. Our goal was to investigate the opportunities of data analysis and visualization techniques to better understand cities and behavioral changes. How can we support city planners and other stakeholders in the decision making process? And how can we make data accessible and understandable for the general public?

The data is primarily collected through api.citybik.es or directly from the websites of the respective bike sharing operators. Some of the data is still updated regularly but the application is not actively maintained and we can't guarantee correctness and completeness.
